Mess Hall

Mess Hall is an ongoing performance series, presented and curated by The Coincidentals that showcases the original choreography of artists in Chicago with the goal of creating opportunity for independent artists to make new work in a shared space where they can show, discuss, and receive feedback from their peers. Mess Hall includes weekly rehearsal space, at least one work in progress showing, and a final performance at Outerspace Studios as well as endless opportunities to collaborate and communicate with other artists. The final showing is presented in a "messy," informal setting, which attempts to break down the hierarchy of traditional audience-artist relationship and invite the audience to be a part of the creative process by participating in a discussion about dance. The diversity of artists chosen to participate in Mess Hall is particularly aimed at fostering young artists working in experimental and hybrid forms and artists working on multidisciplinary collaborations.
